We have found documentation on the web for connections of our Harris family linage back to John M. Harris (Tennessee Dec 1825) and Martha Jane Hunter (Kentucky Jan 1825). The picture below includes their son Israel Harris (Missouri 08 Feb 1859) and his wife, Mary Victoria Bowman (Missouri 12 Sep 1861). Elliot Ray Harris (Jackson Co., Oregon 19 Feb 1879), the oldest son of Israel and Mary Victoria, is of special interest to our branch of the Deasy clan.
Others, who have published their family trees on the web, have indicated connections between John M. Harris, noted above, and possible parents Alfred Harris (Tennessee 1800), married to Sarah Newport (Tennessee 1801). They, perhaps, have private documents such as diaries, scrap books or bible pages that document this connection, but we have not found public records that substantiate the connection.
We would greatly appreciate being directed to public documents or receiving scanned images of documents that prove our John M. Harris is the son of Alfred Harris and Sarah Newport.
